Time Out Says
eing a quiet spot for people in the know, slap bang in the tourist heartland but barely troubled by the visiting throngs that can make the atmosphere in some nearby outlets really rather overbearing. However, Tolosa still capitalises on its location with a hefty price tag on most dishes – not a single main comes in under Dhs100. Predominantly a grape bar, its menu is inspired by both the south of France (Tolosa is the historical name for the city of Toulouse) and the nearby Basque region of Spain. The pick of the dishes are beef tartare, prepared at the table, and the heart-warmingly good lamb stew. Disappointingly, the expensive starter of escargots de Bourgogne, while apparently fresh from France, are overpowered by a too much garlic butter. Still, to grab a drink and relax on the terrace within sight, but not touching distance of the crowds that surge towards The Dubai Fountain, Tolosa is a worthwhile place to stop.
