Time Out Says
Grab your date, turn a corner, take the lift, walk a little, turn again, walk a little more, maybe turn another corner… We can’t remember the exact route, however, once you make it down the long, dark and winding corridor you’ll find one of Dubai’s best dishes. No question.
Tong Thai’s braised beef rib massaman nua curry is a culinary conundrum. Just how the meat hasn’t simply melted away into the caramel coloured curry is baffling – as it’s softer than butter.
But it’s there, smacking our taste buds with every fiery, yet creamy mouthful of authentic curry. We’d cross oceans for another taste of this peanutty deliciousness.
Even without this standout dish, the menu benefits from a stellar line-up of fresh salads, stir fries and a bounty of shellfish-packed plates. Everything is authentic, moreish and well presented.
The setting itself is extremely low-lit and everything is black: floors, walls, ceilings, furniture and cutlery. Light comes from a wonderful array of low-hanging red lanterns, however it still can be a little tricky to see your dinner. Not that it matters mind, just follow your nose and you won’t go wrong.
