Time Out Says
A bar in Souk Madinat is almost guaranteed to be popular, with plenty of customers spilling in from the theatre, shops and quirky little stalls. Trader Vic’s also draws people in with its waterside location and Latin music from the Cuban band, and keeps guests happy with its range of exotic Tiki-inspired beverages. So whenever you visit, expect to be busy, especially so during weekends. It’s an eclectic place to dine, with the wooden decor mixed with bamboo furnishings and garish fabrics. When it comes to dining, the menu sounds promising with dishes such as baby squid, steamed seabass, crab rangoon, seared sea scallops and Canadian lobster. Unfortunately, many of the dishes fail to live up to their descriptions. It can also be a loud place to dine, especially when the band starts up, making it a struggle to have a conversation. Service can also be lacking, which is a surprise when considering how much competition there is in Souk Madinat. If you’re just looking for a place to enjoy a few drinks in a lively atmosphere, then Trader Vic’s is definitely worth considering. If you’re hungry and looking for a sit-down meal, it may be best looking somewhere else.
