Viceroy Pub

Colonial theme pub in Bur Dubai

Time Out Says

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
The Viceroy is designed to look like a colonial bar during the time of the British occupation of India. And when that’s the least objectionable thing about a place, you know that you’re onto something ‘special’ indeed.

Smelling like your chain-smoking grandfather’s manky old jacket and wallowing in a murky darkness, it hardly looks inviting. And in the case of most of the staff (there are a couple of very pleasant exceptions) it isn’t.

The food doesn’t make up for it. The menu offers the usual pub grub standards at average prices, but the quality of the food – using both ‘quality’ and ‘food’ in the loosest senses possible – is distinctly sub-par. Particularly the lasagne, which is like eating tomato-flavoured cardboard. Aside from unusually cheap beverages – you’re looking at about Dhs26 a pint – possibly the best thing here is the selection of sports screens, which sometimes show four different events simultaneously. And the leather sofas are pretty comfy too, which may be about all you need.
