Time Out Says
Villa Beach is a confusing one. Located adjacent to Jumeirah Beach Hotel, but newly considered part of the Burj Al Arab (its private beach neighbours the JBH, and both hotels are managed by Jumeirah Group), the Mediterranean restaurant has the garden furniture-style feel of somewhere hotel guests would go to for a beachside bite to eat – until you see the prices. Equally jarring is the types of dishes on the menu, which ranges wildly from hundred-odd-dirham burgers to caviar priced at almost a thousand. What’s good? The burrata salad is fresh, creamy, beach-friendly fare, and allows the kitchen to work within their capabilities, where some other dishes do not. On that note, avoid the seafood paella, unsuccessful in mostly all of its ambition, and priced at an astonishing Dhs480 for two. Ultimately, it’s hard not to feel that the quiet change in address (and not location) was a cynical move to jack up the prices, and given that a previous incarnation of the menu featured a chicken paella for two priced at Dhs230, that thinking certainly seems justified.
