Time Out Says

Close your eyes and imagine you’re on holiday. Glass of pink grape in hand, salty sea breeze ruffling your hair and warm sunshine dappling on your face.

Whether you’re actually on vacay (lucky you) or if you just live the other side of town, Villamoré on Palm Jumeirah will feel like a sun-soaked break in the Med (providing you haven’t picked one of the rare days of bad weather).

The gorgeous spot is all white-washed tables and chairs paired with blue furnishings. It’s crisp, it’s clean and it’s all very on-trend in both look and vibe.

Housed at Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai, it’s also the opposite of the gawdy set up you’ll encounter elsewhere in the hotel (hello, giant, ostentatious lobby-dwelling chandelier).

Visit by day and stay for sunset for the best experience – as this is a seaside setting you don’t want to miss. With a terrace looking out across the beach this al fresco spot serves up dishes from regional Italy, the French Riviera and elements of Levant cuisine, including plenty of seafood.

Fresh fish ranges from red snapper to sea bream to octopus and prawns, via a whole Dover sole meunière – meaning that there’s also a range of prices. It’s not cheap, but neither would you expect it to be for the location.

However, there are some deals, too, if you want to take it lighter on the pocket, including a ladies’ day with free-flowing antipasti, grape and pool access for Dhs195 every weekday and a daily aperitivo hour from 5pm until 8pm where you’ll get a free platter of nibbles to accompany your sunset drinks.

If you like a lazy weekend then don’t miss out on the Barefoot Lunch (AKA, brunch) either, which is a gloriously relaxed meal by the ocean – complete with fresh catch and an antipasti room (starring unlimited cheese).

If you happen to visit another time and have a hankering for endless cold cuts, fret not, you can dig in for Dhs90. We especially recommend the super-fresh dips and moreish homemade frittatas.

From the starter menu the tuna tartare is delicate and tasty, while a lemon risotto is just zingy enough without being overcitrussy. It’s a top sharing dish to go with your fresh fish or lemony baby chicken.

With super-cool beach vibes and a simple, tasty menu – if you can’t make it to the Rivieria, luckily it’s (almost) come to you.
