Wafi Gourmet (Wafi Mall)
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011Through a maze of deli counters, barrels of olives and baskets of nougat in impossibly hard to navigate WAFI mall, lies this family-friendly cafe. Like the mall itself, Wafi Gourmet seems to have lost its market share over the last few months (it’s worth noting the branch in Dubai Mall does a good trade) but it’s certainly not indicative of declining standards. The deliciously fresh breads still arrive puffed up with steam, the tabouleh is fresh and generously sprinkled with chopped tomatoes and the cooked spinach salad is perfectly seasoned.
The only slight letdown is the chicken shawarma plate, which arrives on a dish piled high, ready for self-assembly, but the shavings of the meat itself are dry as a bone – a far cry from the soft, moist chunks they were on our last visit. If the old WAFI branch of Wafi Gourmet is guilty of anything, it’s resting on its laurels, but the salads remain some of the best – and least oily – around.
