Time Out Says

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

When Wagamama first opened in Bloomsbury London in 1992, you had to queue to get in. These days with branches all over the world, Wagamama-mania has calmed down.

What does remain the same are the yummy dishes served up at reasonable prices. Share some vegetable gyoza with chilli, garlic and soya sauce to whet the appetite. Then move onto a bowl of the chilli beef ramen, which is loaded with fresh red chillies.

The yaki udon, a pile of teppan-fried udon noodles, shiitake mushrooms, scrambled egg and pieces of prawn and chicken is another tasty affair. Vegetarians will revel at the mouth-watering options on the menu. Yasai chilli men is a noodle dish packed with tofu, courgettes, mushrooms, snow peas and carrots in a spicy tomato sauce and is extremely yummy, and despite the huge portion you’ll clean the plate.

Also popular is the katsu curry, which consists of slices of breaded sweet potato, aubergine and butternut squash served with a spicy sauce and steamed rice. The edamame are sometimes chewy in this branch, but it’s a small complaint. Not many places seem to be able to get cheesecake right, but Wagamama come up trumps with a creamy slice and crunchy ginger nutty base.

This value for money chain is perfect for meeting up with mates after work or for a weekend lunch.
