Time Out Says

Formerly Yakitori House, prior to its merging with the Ascot Hotel’s Thai restaurant (you’ll find both Thai and Japanese food on the menu), Tei is otherwise much unchanged from its original incarnation. The same dark tiling and furnishings pervade the space, and some overenthusiastic use of the A/C does nothing to make the dining room feel warm or inviting. Nevertheless, it still attracts the odd few Japanese diners (which hopefully vouches for its authenticity), though is typically pretty quiet – perhaps due to declining service over the years, and Bur Dubai’s notoriously hectic congestion. The menu is, frankly, enormous, and if you’re struggling to choose, you can’t go far wrong (here, or anywhere, really) with an order of sashimi, while the gyoza are meaty, tender and perfectly crisp on the underside. There’s not much to be said for presentation of the dishes, but the portion sizes are generous, and a plate of yaki soba, though a little on the oily side, will leave you thoroughly satisfied. Yakitori Tei offers a not unpleasant dining experience, but it’s not quite worth braving Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street’s traffic for.
