Time Out Says
Dubai Marina view from the terrace? Check. Traditionally decked out interior and staff? Check. Vast selection of Indian dishes from all over the country? Check again. There really is a great deal to be impressed by at Zafran, but mostly its unassuming style is where this Marina Mall outlet deserves high praise. “No frills” sounds derogatory, but in this case it is very much to be taken as a positive. After all, it is a place to stop by rather than dress up for. The butter chicken says it all – popular, hearty, please-all fare but with a subtle sprinkling of stardust. Elsewhere on the menu, the soup starters are worth a slurp; light with a little punch, especially the lentil. The dahee kebab – little dumpling sized, deep-fried yogurt balls – is terrific, presented on a dollop of soft, creamy sauce. Put in a more exclusive spot, Zafran’s food would stand-up to critique. But frankly we like it just the way – and where – it is.
