Time Out Says

Watching Dubai’s stunning fountain show never gets old, and we love it when we find a new vantage to admire it from.

Zeta, at the relatively recently re-opened Address Downtown, is an absolutely prime spot if you want nothing more than to be mesmerised by the views.

The restaurant sits at the end of the hotel’s outdoor area – past The Galliard and STK Downtown – sitting right above the The Dubai Mall, and that famous bridge where thousands of tourists jostle for a space.

Zeta is fairly quiet on our visit, which we can only think is because the word is not yet out. The sprawling al fresco space, which has room for 400 people, isn’t packed, which means there’s not much ambience when it comes to the crowd.

But the joy is in the location. The restaurant is named after a star and with the glittering light shows on the Burj Khalifa, it’s fairly apt. Add to that the half-hourly fountain shows and you’ve got a top spot for date nights and wowing visitors.

The décor is trendy and modern, boasting gold and green metal palm trees and sparkling fairy lights. The mood is laid-back and mellow, though service is a little too chilled out at times.

Food is decent, although if you’re looking for plenty of choice and a full meal it won’t fit the bill as there’s a only a petite menu, starring sushi and Asian bites. But it’s surprisingly well priced for the location and in comparison to others of its kind.

We opt for the signature Burj roll with salmon, avocado, chopped lettuce, spiced mayo and tobiko, which comes in at Dhs70. It’s tasty, fresh and moreish. The vegetable rolls are equally good, and are a twist on the norm with radish, burdock root, Japanese gourd, avocado, cucumber and lettuce.

Crispy fried squid is delicious – light, flavoursome and delicately spiced. The only slight let-down is the chicken karage, which is on the greasy side and doesn’t quite nail it flavour-wise.

There’s also a spacious lounge and bar area if you’re not looking to dine, with low sofas and comfy cabanas, which also isn’t eyewateringly expensive either with a bottle of house grape setting you back Dhs230.

For fountain views with some picky bites to eat, you can’t get much better than Zeta.
