From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009Zyng is a solid Festival City pan Asian spot that merits a stop if you’re peckish and in the area, but not really worth trekking any distance for. The menu has some corny waffle about ‘yin and yang’, but skip this and peruse the decent blend of South-East Asian flavours on offer.
Go for a soup starter in the watery form of the prince’s wonton, which mixes Chinese noodles, chicken dumplings, bok choy and spring onions in chicken stock with a wheat-based fried wonton garnish. The teriyaki salmon fillet presents a grilled sesame-seed-dotted slab of fish on a bed of stir-fried vegetables and steamed jasmine rice. If you like your salmon moist and pink, ask for it to be cooked that way or there’s a danger it will be overdone.
One of the restaurant’s highlights is the vanilla cheesecake, which is beautifully moist, light and sweet, with a garishly orange but refreshing fruit compote and mango sauce. But this is not typically Asian, so perhaps try to finish off with something that is – the Zyng chai, which combines tea, non-fat milk, honey and Chinese spices, is a good example.
