Where to buy vegan make up in Dubai in 2020
The Body Shop

We loved getting dolled up every now and again, but chances are a lot of us haven’t really considered where our makeup is coming from. Vegan beauty products contain no animal ingredients at all, omitting honey, beeswax, milk, and eggs, so you can look radiant while being safe in the knowledge that your beauty is totally ethical. These brands below all have vegan ranges so you can slap up to your heart’s content with a clear conscience.

BioAroma Oil
BioAroma oils are 100 percent natural and extracted from barks, resins, flowers and fruits and helps treat the skin, body and mind. The oils are distilled in Crete, though you can order them in Dubai from the likes of Desertcart. Choose from gentle products for the face, hair and body, as well as essential oils to help you unwind after a hard day’s saving the planet.
Available from www.desertcart.ae.

Barry M
London make-up specialist Barry M has a huge range of vegan products on sale. In fact, it has an entire section of its website dedicated to vegan-friendly products, meaning you’re safe from having to scan an endless list of seven-syllable ingredients in fear of animal-based ingredients being used. You can order online – choosing from face, eyes, lips or nails – and have the products delivered. However, Barry M is also stocked in major retail stores across Dubai such as Boots.

e.l.f Cosmetics
Every last item in e.l.f’s range is 100 percent vegan, including its make-up brushes, which are completely synthetic. The company has even been endorsed by leading animal rights organisation, PETA. If that’s not a stamp of approval then we don’t know what is.

Kat Von D
Kat Von D has an entire #Veganalert range that doesn’t use any animal products or by-products and has not been tested on animals. In true Kat Von D ferocity, you’ll find bright bold colours in every dramatic hue, from tattoo eyeliners and everlasting lip liners to studded crème lipsticks and holographic eyeshadow palettes. We can’t get enough.
Available at Sephora (various locations including Mall of The Emirates, JBR and Dubai Mall) www.katvondbeauty.com.

Ever been walking in a mall and suddenly gone light-headed? Well, you’ve probably just walked past a Lush – you know the store, the one with all those soaps and bath bombs that are even more potent in smell than they are in colour. However, we’re big fans of the medley of perfumes as well as the company’s values itself. Lush is a vegetarian brand and, while not completely vegan, it claims around 80 percent of its products are suitable for vegans. It admits to using milk, honey, lanolin and eggs in some products because they are beneficial for the skin and hair, but it takes measures to clearly label these. Order online if you just can’t quite stand the stank.

What time is it? Time to start being considerate to the planet by buying an Olivia Burton watch complete with vegan-friendly wrist strap. Online retail juggernaut Namshi stocks a near-endless amount of vegan products – everything from makeup to moisturisers, nail files to nail care kits, sports bras to brushes… You need it, just name it, Namshi has it. Other big brands include Smith & Cult, theBalm, rahua, NCLA, MALIN + GOETZ, Deborah Lippman and COOLA Suncare. You can shop online and bag free delivery if you order more than Dhs100, while avoiding the swarm of meat eaters usually found hanging around shopping malls in packs.
Online only, visit en-ae.namshi.com.

Marc Jacobs Beauty
The luxury cosmetics brand is cruelty-free and does not test items on animals. The sleek products sold in even more stylish packaging are a worldwide favourite. The company admits not all products are vegan-friendly, as some contain ingredients of animal origin, such as beeswax and carmine. However, that being said, there are many items that are suitable for vegans such as the Re(marc)able Foundation. The line is stocked by Sephora across Dubai while there is a Marc Jacobs store in the Mall of the Emirates.

Too Faced
Too Faced is a 100 percent cruelty-free beauty line, with an impressive selection of vegan cosmetics too. Even the make-up brushes are made from soft and gentle ‘teddy-bear hair’, and the list of products is as long as your arm. There are primers, mascaras, liners, lipsticks, bronzers, foundations – you name it.

The Body Shop
It feels good to know that no animals are being harmed in the pursuit of our vanity and it doesn’t hurt to whack some natural products on your dish once in a while. The Body Shop is famously against animal testing and has worked with Cruelty Free International over the past three decades to promote beauty without cruelty. All of the make-up brushes on sale are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, and the extensive vegan range extends to moisturising vegan make up made with aloe vera to vegan skincare crafted with essential oils.

Urban Decay
For more than 20 years, American cosmetics brand Urban Decay has taken pride in putting the environment and animals first. The brand has made it its mission to bring an end to animal testing in the cosmetics industry – banning its products from being tested on animals and shunning any suppliers who do. It has an entire vegan range and it claims to be actively working with laboratories to turn many more of its products into being vegan, without sacrificing quality, colour of texture. Items include mascara, lippy, eyeshadows, concealer and more. Sephora stocks Urban Decay products in three locations across Dubai.
