The Dubai Mall launches self-service VAT refunds

Tourists can get their cash reimbursed more easily than ever in the world’s biggest shopping mall

The Dubai Mall launches self-service VAT refunds

One of the most famous destinations in the world for shopping ‘till you’re dropping, The Dubai Mall has introduced a way for visitors to make sure they quickly and easily claim back the VAT on any shopping they do in the emirate.

Planet, a company that conducts transactions and payments services around the world, has launched a VAT refund pilot to make it easier than ever for visitors to get their five percent back on purchases in the UAE.

Since VAT was introduced at the start of 2018, it has been made clear that international visitors and tourists are exempt from the tax, which sits at five percent. Whether it’s on clothes, electronics, knickknacks or anything in between, tourists are now able to get their cash refund before leaving the UAE.

Head to one of seven kiosks across The Dubai Mall, present your valid boarding pass, passport or GCC national ID, as well as the original receipts and tax-free tag (don’t lose those!) and you’ll be guided through the process.

Your money will be reimbursed through either credit or debit card, cash, or even WeChat. You have to get your refund sorted out within 90 days, but otherwise you’re good to go.
