Prices reduced on thousands of consumer goods and food in Dubai

Feeling the pinch in Dubai?

Well, while there are plenty of brilliant ways to get out and about in Dubai without spending a fortune (including at these top budget restaurants), life has been made even easier thanks to a new initiative launched by the Ministry of Economy.

Thousands of goods across the city, and across the country, will have their prices reduced by as much as 60 percent, announced by the Emirates News Agency.

That means you’ll be able to get food, clothing and your household essentials for less throughout the month, through until the end of March.

"Ministry coordinated with major retail outlets and cooperatives to implement the initiative, pointing out that the price cuts would include basic commodities, to support price stability, and provide many opportunities for consumers to obtain their necessities at lower prices,” said Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Competitiveness and Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy.

It’s been backed by Union Coop, which confirmed that the supermarket will be dropping the price of 300 items under the Coop brand by as much as 30 percent throughout the month.
