Boom & Mellow: This is the sort of boutique that any serious shopaholic loves to stumble across. Bags line the walls, chunky necklaces hang temptingly from silver pegs, and crystal-encrusted earrings sparkle alluringly behind glass cabinets. Look out for the cool vintage creations from the likes of Madame Rêve and Miss Pink. With regular shipments from around the globe, you can keep up-to-date with the latest trends without leaving the country and, while some items are a little pricey, there are plenty of bargains to be had.

Cartier: This store swarms with a dazzling display of diamonds, gorgeous charms, luxurious links, glistening bestiary and delicate paves. Many of the pieces don’t have prices attached, usually meaning that if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

Damas: This popular jeweller prides itself on its quality gold creations. Damas was once associated with the more mature woman, but this is no longer the case; witness the appointment of Lebanese singing sensation Nancy Ajram as the face of the brand. Indeed, all ends of the age spectrum from teens to their grandmothers will find something to get excited about at Damas. Prices go right across the board, from Dhs600 to far more bank-breaking figures.

Glitter: You don’t have to blow your budget when buying bling; just take a trip into Glitter and check out the Crislu collection of crystal rings and pendants. Those with money to burn, however, should seek out Montblanc’s ‘Magic en blanc et noir’ jewellery collection, which consists of gleaming white freshwater pearls and black Tahitian pearls. A Montblanc necklace retails for around Dhs17,000, with matching earrings coming at Dhs9,000.

Gold & Diamond Park: Gold is good value in this part of the world, but if you can’t be bothered to haggle in the souks head here instead. You’ll find about 30 retailers and over 120 manufacturers in this purpose-built structure designed to have a real old-world Arabian souk feel to it. In addition to purple, black and gold pearls, there’s all sorts of traditional and modern pieces of jewellery, and you can also commission your own unique designs.

Graff: Those with a predilection for diamonds should get on over to Graff where the focus is very much on a girl’s best friend. This hugely attractive shop is one of the few to produce, manufacture and retail its own gems, so the stunning range changes every day. The pieces are classically beautiful and elegant.

Check out the highly coveted engagement rings (and say, ‘Pretty pleeease’ to your fiance) or the signature Tiffany bubbles, hearts and watches. And if you can’t afford it, eating a danish and gazing through the window is the next best thing.
