Donate your old trainers
This charity drive, a collaboration between Dubai-based long-distance runner Tori Leckie and local charity SmartLife, aims to provide labourers with sneakers to compete in the SmartCup cricket tournament in February. Donations can be made at Fortune Promoseven, Office 449, fourth floor, Emarat Atrium on Sheikh Zayed Road between 9am and 6pm, Sunday to Thursday.

Dubai Flea Market at Uptown Mirdif
On Friday January 13 head to the outdoor courtyard at Uptown Mirdif Mall to buy used wares, clothing and pre-loved knick knacks. To book a stand visit www.dubai-fleamarket.com, participation is Dhs230 and is payable at the registration desk on the day.

Dubai Shopping Festival
There are three weeks left of the bonanza of sales and events taking place throughout the city. With more than 6,000 outlets participating, as well as stores at the Global Village complex, this year the event is bigger than ever. A variety of entertainment, including concerts, is scheduled throughout the festival. This weekend, January 12 to 14, check out the daily fireworks show at 8pm at The Creek, opposite Al Seef Street. Shoppers at Emaar Boulevard in Downtown Dubai will be treated to a carnival parade featuring floats, musicians and dancers at 8pm the same weekend. See right for deals.

THE One Ranch Living collection
This relaxed line combines neutral and earthy tones with greenery such as palm-leaf wallpaper and Native Indian prints to create a country-inspired cowboy-style environment. The collection features light and dark woods, colourful cushions and even cacti. It reminds us of old-school Nicolas Cage flick Raising Arizona.

Charlie and the Chocolate Bear stage show
Starting Thursday January 12, kids and families will be entertained by a lively stage show, following Charlie across the world, as he seeks out the chocolate bean to keep the Wonka dream alive. Daily 6.15pm and 8pm, followed by a photo opportunity with the characters. Chocolate-inspired fun, games and arts and crafts will also run throughout DSF.
Stage show until January 21, games and crafts until January 28. Sun-Wed, party games 5.30pm and 9.30pm; arts and crafts 5.30pm and 9.30pm. Kite Festival at Dubai Outlet Mall
On Friday January 13, kite teams from around the world will fly their colourful kites outside Dubai Outlet Mall, as well invite the public to fly their own. There will also be a kite-making workshop for kids, a Chinese lantern display, bouncy castle, food stalls, dune buggies and a souk and handicraft market.

Power Puff Girls concert at BurJuman
Looking for a way to keep the kids entertained while you grab some bargains? The Power Puff Girls will take to the stage at BurJuman, performing all their biggest hits.
Daily shows at 5pm, 6.30pm and 8pm, followed by a 15-minute meet and greet. Until January 21, except January 17 (04 352 0222).

See dance performances at Deira City Centre
During the evenings, the mall’s centre stage will host dance performances exploring a wide range of styles and influences, such as Bollywood and urban dance. There will be three nightly shows (call to confirm timings) and during the day, kids can participate in fashion workshops and have their photo taken in their stylish wear at the same venue. Also at Deira City Centre, the newly opened Metro Link will transform into a lifestyle photo exhibition showcasing local artistic talent.
