Rory McIlroy signs with Omega and more style news

Former world number one golfer and Dubai expat Rory McIlroy has been announced as the new brand ambassador for luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega (04 339 8307). The 23-year-old Northern Irish golfer, who currently calls Dubai home, joins the ranks of veterans Daniel Craig, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman and fellow golfer Greg Norman in the sponsorship deal, and has already starred in an ad campaign for the brand.

Meanwhile, Julie Deane, the founder of the much-coveted Cambridge Satchel Company was in town recently to unveil a trio of limited-edition black-and-white styles for Bloomingdale’s (04 350 5333). The mod-style monochrome satchels, pictured below, are bang on trend and are a homage to the retro revival that’s sweeping stores at the moment. We think they’d look great hanging off the side of a Vespa.

Shoppers looking for a feel-good buy should head down to More Café (04 323 4350) or The Ara Gallery (04 454 2784) to check out the handmade wares by social initiative Sougha. The organisation is aimed at preserving Emirati heritage and providing opportunities for artisans all over the UAE. The hand-woven textile iPad cases and beach bags make nice gifts for friends back home. That’s all for this week, now get out and shop!
