Jenny Hewett visits the slick new store in Magrudy Mall to meet its owner and unearth a few top buys.
Victoria Devin is not your typical fashion devotee. The French-Irish owner of new upscale Jumeirah boutique Hermione divides her time between Paris and Dubai, where she juggles the glamorous industry of garment-buying with her family’s horse-racing business. It was the latter that first brought her to Dubai almost 15 years ago, but having always been interested in fashion she says opening her own boutique was the next natural step. Nowadays, when she’s not getting her feet muddy on the family stud farm, she’s meeting with French designers including Jay Ahr, Barbara Bui and Ronny Kobo (a process she deems just as gruelling), to line up stock for her boutique.
Many of the labels are exclusive to the store in Dubai, as are some of the beauty products in the adjoining beauty salon Tigerlily. The small but stylish beauty stop is the only stockist of the Seavite organic seaweed range in the Middle East. The brainchild of an Irish marine scientist, the products are made from hand-harvested seaweed from the West Coast of Ireland and Victoria says anyone who tries the products swears by them. But this week it’s the clothes we’ve come to see. Here are our favourites.
