New season styling for men

Kunal Kapoor from shares his style secrets

Gents, it’s time for a wardrobe revamp. Kunal Kapoor at guides Louise Emma Clarke through some of the catwalk’s top menswear picks for the season ahead.

Well-cut jeans

As seen at Dior, Keno, and Valentino
‘Denim never goes out of fashion, but this season the catwalk was awash with well-cut jeans in every wash and style imaginable. Pairing your jeans with boots and a lightweight sweater is always a good look, or wear them with a classic white T-shirt, bold blazer and smart shoes for a night out. Remember, it can be impossibly hard to find the perfect fit, but if you haven’t, keep looking because it really does make all the difference.’
Buy Regular fit jeans, Dhs185, Zara, various locations including Mall of the Emirates, Al Barsha (04 341 3171).

Bermuda shorts

As seen at
Bottega Veneta.
‘Though Bermuda shorts were inspired by days on the beach, it’s definitely not an exclusive relationship, especially taking the UAE’s warmer weather into account. They can pretty much be worn all year round here in Dubai and looking at this season’s catwalks, it’s evident that you’d be right on-trend for the season ahead. I recommend choosing a pair of shorts that allude to the Bermuda style, but are made from a chino-style fabric. Shoes can also make or break the look – I’m a big fan of moccasins, as I think they complement the look perfectly for day and night. You could even add a quirky fedora and a matching belt for a preppy take on the trend.’

Baseball caps

As seen at
Umit Benan
‘The catwalk has given baseball caps an elegant makeover, meaning they’re no longer synonymous with a sporty day out. Take its material and design into consideration, as choosing a colourful cap will tone down the outfit, while a chic leather one could be dressed up well. As long as you have the attitude to pull off the look.’
Buy Baseball cap, Dhs525, Giorgio Armani at The Luxury Closet,

Strong graphic prints

As seen at
Comme des Garcons, Alexander McQueen and Sacai.
‘Strong graphic prints aren’t always easy to pull off, especially for guys who have a classic closet, but the key to wearing them is not to overdo it. A great way to slowly introduce this look to your wardrobe is by wearing graphic printed accessories such as belts, shoes, statement scarves, and silk ties. When you’re feeling more courageous with the trend, include a graphic T-shirt, shirt or sweater
under a plain suit for a subtly on-trend outfit.’
Buy Printed T-shirt, Dhs59, H&M, various locations including The Dubai Mall (04 330 8327).

Bright jackets

As seen at
Dior, Dries Van Noten and Raf Simons.
‘With the warmer Middle Eastern climate, I suggest choosing a lightweight, tailored jacket that will add a bold pop of colour to your look, while keeping you cool throughout the day. A bright jacket paired with a pair of tailored shorts and loafers would make a great outfit for brunch, whilst pairing a velvet version with dark-wash jeans and a crisp, white shirt would create a chic yet laid-back evening look.’
Buy Bright blue blazer, Dhs1,637, Nigel Hall at Next, various locations including The Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai (04 339 9685).

White sneakers

As seen at
Phillip Lim, Kenzo and Louis Vuitton.
‘White sneakers are a fashion staple for me and never go out of fashion. This season, the catwalk took them to the next level by teaming them with an elegant, classic look. Try pairing a designer pair with a dapper suit for the ultimate on-trend look.’
Buy Superstar 80s Vintage Deluxe Sneakers, Dhs675, Adidas, various locations including The Dubai Mall (04 434 0603).
