Bag a swapped bargain

Fashion Swap Shop returns for an evening of pre-loved swapping

Have you ever found yourself shuffling through your wardrobe at 7.45am on a Sunday, looking for something new to wear to work, while asking yourself, “Do I even like half of this stuff?” If you’re nodding, then we’ve got just the solution for you. Fashion Swap Shop, as its name illustrates, is a bi-monthly event that brings together the fashion-conscious, vendors and make-up artists,
all aiming to swap their pre-loved closets.

Founded by stylist Celia-Jane Ukwenya, and next taking place on Tuesday April 5 at Garden on 8 in Media One Hotel, this is the place to swap your never-worn-before LBD for a brand-spanking-new red dress. This edition of Fashion Swap Shop will also host independent boutiques and vintage art dealers from across the emirate.

While you might have your eye on the Alexander McQueen handbag sitting on the swap rail, Ukwenya says there is a lot more to look out for. “There is a well-curated line-up of contemporary and vintage boutiques putting up a stall. And it’s not all about clothes, bags and shoes. This time around we have art pieces as well as quirky and kitch jewellery, too.”

And when you’ve finished swapping your cast-offs, why not get your nails and hair done? There will be a dedicated manicure and blow-dry bar offering free makeovers to every shopper, and Garden on 8 will also be serving bar grub and beverages all night. Now, who’s ready for a swap… we mean shop.

Free to attend. Tue April 5, 6pm-10pm. Garden on 8, Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City (no number).

Sunny Side Up, ASOS

Can you ever go wrong with a pair of faux-tortoiseshell frames? In our opinion, no. Especially if worn on the beach with patterned (but not matching) board shorts.

I Feel So Blue, LOCAL

Sometimes you just need a stylish but cheap pair that you can lounge in or wear on that sailing trip without worrying about them getting damaged. This cobalt blue pair will fit the bill.
