Richmond Works designed leather bags - owner interview

Daniela Williams, 34. The New Zealander is hoping to plug the gap in the Dubai market with her Richmond Works designed leather totes, bags and satchels

How did you come up with the idea?
It was inspired by my husband’s grandfather (Richmond) who was the local doctor in a small town in New Zealand. He always carried around an amazing brown leather bag, which was the inspiration for our first, Frank the duffle.

What was your previous career path?
I was in cancer awareness education and research, that’s still very important to me.

What makes your creations stand out?
Our bags are high-quality, affordable, well designed and have loads of personality.

How important is the ethical side?
Hugely important. I spent a long time researching leather and visiting tanneries to ensure the product we use is ethical.

Which is your favourite bag?
The Betty is very special as it’s named after my nana. Her personality is reflected in the design, with the robust lines and cheekiness of the vintage floral lining.
