Tub of Butter in Dubai

Tub of Butter does so much without spreading itself too thin

There’s something special about restaurants where you can dine and then take a piece of it back home with you. While many cute gourmet eateries in Dubai might come with a cool culinary concept, there are some that are now selling unique epicurean products in-house, too.

Tub of Butter – a new café on Sheikh Zayed Road with a retail space selling artisanal products from around the world. This store stocks bespoke Japanese tea blends, 23-karat-gold truffle honey, diamond salt from Pakistan and Madagascan pepper.

It also stocks a wide selection of cheeses from around the world, freshly baked bread, olive oil from Sicily and Tuscany and pickles from Eastern Europe. What you won’t find at your local supermarket you’ll most probably be able to pick up here, albeit at a hiked price, but with the quality to match.

As you walk in, the somewhat chaotic pantry makes you feel like you’re in a chef’s kitchen and invites you to rummage through all of these real treats. Once you’ve found a nice selection of items you could even put together a customised gift hamper for your foodie best friend.

An huge pizza oven sits in this part of the store, where fresh pizzas are made to be eaten hot off the stone. You can also take away one of the frozen versions to bake at home yourself. And here’s where this gourmet deli differs from the rest – Tub of Butter stocks a whole range of freshly made frozen food with which to stock your freezer.

This homegrown store needs to make its way up on your weekend to-do list, urgently.
Open daily 7am-11pm. Al Thanya Street, off Sheikh Zayed Road (04 343 8884).
