Huge Fashion Hits Home event coming to Yas Mall

Sponsored Content: Eight excellent reasons to go to Yas Mall from Tuesday October 3 to Saturday 7, including home makeovers from celebrity lifestyle gurus Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan

It’s easy to find a house – it’s making that house a home that’s challenging. Do you want a minimalistic abode or a more shabby-chic vibe? How about something a little more traditional over transitional? There are a lot of questions to answer before you step into the home store, which is why Yas Mall is making it easy for you. From Tuesday October 3 to Saturday 7, the capital’s most popular mall is hosting some top interior design minds for a five-day Fashion Hits Home event that’ll have you feeling confident about choosing the perfect throw for that new sofa in no time. Here are eight reasons why you need to go...

1 Meet Colin and Justin
Ever seen Sixty Minute Makeover? We bet British readers have. The great UK interiors show sees a vast TV crew descend on one lucky (and oblivious) individual’s house to revamp a number of rooms in just one hour. This week, two former designers from the show, the international lifestyle gurus Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan (pictured above), are heading to Yas Mall to host Battle of the Rooms, which will take place every day from 6.30pm to 7pm and 8.30pm to 9pm*. It’s a similar concept, except this time they have to refurbish just one room in 30 minutes. And they’ll be competing against one another to style the best one. Who wins? You decide.

2 Style a great home office
On Tuesday October 3, day one of the event, affordable home store Home Centre is on show, and it has transformed Yas Mall’s purpose-built “house”, located by the Town Square, into an accessible, modern abode that anyone can afford. From 10am to 10pm, shoppers can discover the brand’s latest collections and kids will enjoy their very own play area in the “garden”. Local businesswoman Mthayel Al Ali will also be on hand, from 2.30pm to 3pm and 4.30pm to 5pm*, to show you how to transform and organise your home office space so that you never want to leave.

3 Bake the perfect red velvet cupcake
On day two, Wednesday October 4, upscale American favourite, west elm, is showing off its wares all day, alongside every handyman’s favourite shop, ACE Hardware. Whether you’re in the market for something stylish or more do-it-yourself equipment and sturdy furniture, you’ll find it today. Showcasing the kitchen equipment is notable food blogger Naomi D’Souza, who will be demonstrating how to bake a red velvet in The Great Yas Mall Bake-Off, from 2.30pm to 3pm and again at 4.30pm to 5pm*.

4 Figure out feng shui
If top-quality, sustainable, American-style furniture is what you’re after, then day three (Thursday October 5) is for you, as Pottery Barn brings you the cosiest and most coveted of its latest seasonal collections. Hala Abdallah, the trained interior designer with a million-strong online following, will be talking about bedroom feng shui from 2.30pm to 3pm and 4.30pm to 5pm*.

5 Watch a quirky fashion show
On days four and five, fashion designer Mariam Yeya, AKA Mrs Keepa, is using home accessories to produce four catwalk shows with a difference. The Egyptian-French businesswoman has successfully created lines of beautiful clothes that draw inspiration from her Middle Eastern roots while merging European flair and technique. For the Fashion Hits Home Catwalk Show, however, she’s inspired by UAE-born furniture brand THE One, British department store Debenhams, and contemporary Japanese shop Muji. Head there from 2.30pm to 3pm and 4.30pm to 5pm* on both days to see the not-to-be-missed shows.

6 Eat some great food
Yas Mall is home to some fantastic restaurants. In particular, located between Yas Mall and Ferrari World, is Cascade Dining, a collection of 17 indoor and/or outdoor outlets selling an array of world cuisines, from authentic Middle Eastern mezze to Italian pizzas and American burgers. For a bite of all-Americana, try Chili’s, but if it’s flavourful Indian dishes you’re looking for then Masala Street is where it’s at. For juicy burgers, there’s none other than BurgerFuel, and for all your Italian classics you must try Buco Di Beppo. Finish off with a sweet treat at one of the specialist dessert spots.

7 Enjoy a full day out
It’s not just about shopping – there are plenty more exciting attractions at this family-friendly mall. Adventure HQ’s Adventure Zone (www.adventurehq.ae) is one of the best, with the UAE’s tallest Climbing Pinnacle, high and low ropes courses, zip lining, biking and a unique caving experience. You can even hop aboard a Boeing 737 NG and test out your flying skills, as Dream Aero (www.dreamaero.net) has introduced the UAE’s first flight simulation centre. For the kids, head to edutainment venue Fun Works (www.funworks.ae), where two floors of attractions await. Meanwhile, teens will love Softair Battlezone (www.tasleehshooting.com), an indoor airsoft gaming facility, store and café. Have fun!
Yas Mall’s Fashion Hits Home event takes place by the mall’s main fountain. Tue Oct 3-Sat 7, 10am-10pm. www.yasmall.ae.
