You hear about yet another opening at The Dubai Mall and think: maybe just have a quick peek at the place. You drag your reluctant other half out of the house and head towards Oviesse, the new Italian store at The Dubai Mall. It’s not until you see the shop windows that you realise it was worth the effort. Summery orange petals scatter the sills, mannequins are dressed in must-have summer attire (skimpy bikinis, cute dresses) and accessories are stylishly placed, making you point and exclaim,‘ I want that!’ You enter the store and suddenly your other half is interested as there are men’s and women’s section.
The brick walls combined with the funky chandeliers give the store a very urban, factory look – we’d summarise it as European chic meets American casual. And you’re spoiled for choice – there really is something for everyone, a marketing gimmick that normally disappoints us, but this time seems to be for real. There are elegant full length mirrors to admire yourself in, minimalist yet contemporary changing rooms, and a modern, trendy and casual vibe to the outfits. Oh and there are plenty of options for mixing and matching.
When we think Italian fashion, usually a light bulb pops up in our head with a huge sign marked ‘expensive’ fluttering around it. But look around Oviesse and there are some staggering prices: Dhs56 for a man’s shirt, Dhs79 for a pair of trousers, Dhs160 for a handbag… need we go on?
You make your way to the cashier, leaving your significant other still immersed in his own world of fashion. You wonder if he is the same person who normally waits outside the store while you shop, or just downright refuses a trip to the mall in the first place. He joins you at the cashier and takes out the plastic. His justification for the sudden spending spree? ‘It’s worth it’. And you couldn’t agree more.

Good morning Dubai’s elite, let us unveil to you Dubai’s best kept secret. You won’t find it in The Dubai Mall directory – it’s not in there yet – and you might have to walk a few miles looking for the place. Well we did, as no one seemed to know its location. But we can let you in to the secret: it’s next to the aquarium and it’s called Marami. Blinded by the lights, you enter a whole new world of branded accessories with a whimsical touch. The store displays two-tier fashion, ranging from contemporary chic to more sophisticated designs.
The black and white carpet is wonderfully striking, with glass displays on either side making the bright and shiny objects seem irresistible. The audacious use of colour might be slightly over the top, but it’s also playful and effective. You’ll find ultra cute jewellery and sexy clutches, and brands ranging from Zufi Alexander and Lara Bohinc, to Sand a Bags. TV fans might notice pieces from the likes of Gossip Girl and Sex And The City. And if it’s good enough for SJP and co, it’s certainly good enough to grace Time Out’s wardrobe.

This store welcomes you with a comfortable yet elegant vibe. High glass windows and leather cushioning behind each mannequin makes you feel like royalty. Black walls stand in sharp contrast to the collections on show, where summer comes in bright yellows, oranges, pinks and greens. This chic yet chirpy colour palette is sure to set you in a positive frame of mind for the season. Accessories range from sunglasses and sleek leather patent bags to wallets and scarves. And the best news? It’s not half as expensive as it looks.
