As Dubai and the rest of the UAE gears up for a period of hosting friends and family for evening meals, there’s good news on the cost of grocery shopping.
More than 10,000 products will be sold at discounted prices in supermarkets and cooperatives across the UAE during Ramadan, according to the Ministry of Economy.
Though typically an annual occurrence during the period, discount campaigns held before and during Ramadan in 2017 are valued at US$81.74 million (Dhs300m) this year – an increase of US$13.63m (Dhs50m) on similar campaigns from 2016.
Discounts will range from 50 to 75 percent on most of the foods, with “selected” commodities being sold at cost price. Throughout the period, the ministry will conduct 450 visits to cooperative societies, grocery stores, and meat, chicken and fish markets.
