If there’s any remedy for the January blues it’s a spot of retail therapy, and luckily for us, the city’s retailers heard our cries.
Dubai Shopping Festival is now in full swing (until January 27) so if you haven’t already, don your comfiest shoes and make haste to your favourite mall to bag a bargain at one of the city’s biggest retail events.
As well as exclusive discounts, there will also be world-class entertainment and Dhs3 million worth of prizes to be won – as if we needed any more excuses to get elbow-deep in the bargain basket.
With the 23rd edition of the festival taking over Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, The Dubai Mall, City Centres Deira, Mirdif, Me’aisem, Al Shindagha and My City Centre Al Barsha, deal-hunters can shop until they drop, with a fervour that will help work off that Christmas pudding.
All that shopping can work up quite an appetite, but luckily the bargains don’t stop at retail. Japanese favourite Atisuto is offering savings of up to 40 percent across its entire dine in menu.
With restaurants in Ibn Battuta Mall, Galleria Mall, Al Ghurair and Bay Square, shoppers can refuel on Japanese street-food favourites including the Atisuto crab sandwich, spicy dynamite shrimp, traditional ramen, sushi and noodles, at bargain prices until January 31.
Until Jan 31. Various locations. www.atisuto.ae.
City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif
Is there anything better than a bit of ‘roaming entertainment’ as you shop? We didn’t think so. Until January 27 at City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif, you can expect to see a host of entertainers larking around the mall for your viewing pleasure, including dancers, musicians and even gymnasts.
And the prizes to be won might put a spring in your own step. Visitors who shop for Dhs250 at City Centre Deira and Dhs300 at City Centre Mirdif will be entered into a draw for a chance to win mall gift cards worth Dhs30,000 every day plus instant prizes. Whoever thought shopping could be good for your bank balance?
City Centre Deira: Open daily 10am-midnight. 8th St, Dubai (04 295 1010). City Centre Mirdif: Open daily 10am-midnight. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd, Dubai (04 602 3000).
City Centre Me’aisem, City Centre Al Shindagha and My City Centre Al Barsha
Shoppers at these community malls also have the opportunity to stuff the pockets of their new clobber with wads of cold hard cash. Each week, upon spending Dhs200 at the malls, one person will skip away with Dhs100,000, another will win Dhs50,000, while three others will take home Dhs10,000. There will also be Dhs100,000 worth of gifts given away, as well as entertainment from illusionists, tight rope walkers and plate spinners. Not bad for an afternoon of retail leisure.
City Centre Me’aisem: Open Sun-Thu 10am-10pm; Fri-Sat 10am-midnight. Dubai Sport City, Dubai (04 437 4999). City Centre Al Shindagha. Open daily 10am-midnight. Al Ghubaiba Road, Dubai (04 209 3536). My City Centre Al Barsha: Open daily 10am-10pm. Al Barsha, Dubai (04 437 4908).
Would it be an occasion in Dubai without a firework display? We believe a good bargain should be celebrated accordingly, and so do the folks at The Beach, La Mer and Al Seef. You can catch the pyrotechnics every weekend throughout January and the closing displays will be held at each of these venues at 9pm on January 27.
Free. Al Seef: 8.30pm. The Creek, Dubai. La Mer: 9pm. Jumeriah 1. The Beach: 9.30pm. opposite JBR, www.meraas.com.
Mall of the Emirates
The best thing about shopping at Mall of the Emirates? You don’t need to carry your (potentially hefty) bags. The hands-free shopping experience means your new threads/appliances/furniture will be delivered to your home, hotel or car. And with a vast choice of collections from leading high-street brands, multi-brand stores and designer boutiques, you’ll be well and truly kitted out for the year ahead.
As well as scoring discounts at Prada, Hermès, Dolce & Gabbana, the list goes on… one lucky winner will take home Dhs10,000 every day upon spending Dhs650 at any retailer in the mall. Shoppers will also have the chance to win 10 percent instant cash back in gift cards when shopping for Dhs1,000 – that’s more than a total of Dhs1 million worth of prizes all together. After all, the only thing better than a steal is a freebie.
Open daily 10am-midnight. Al Barsha, Dubai (04 409 9000).
Rixos The Palm Dubai
A full day’s shopping can be physically taxing, and what better way to unwind after a day of retail exertion than with a relaxing stay at one of the city’s five-star hotels. Rixos The Palm Dubai is offering visitors an exclusive package during the shopping festival that includes complimentary buffet breakfast daily at the resort’s award-winning Turkish all-day dining restaurant, complimentary room upgrade on arrival and 20 percent off on all spa treatments at Anjana Spa to help you rejuvenate at the end of a day out and about shopping. The resort is even offering free water taxis to Dubai Marina Mall and a daily shuttle bus to Mall of the Emirates, to make sure you’re getting the optimum amount of retail therapy.
Valid until Jan 21. Rixos The Palm Dubai, Palm Jumeirah (04 457 5555).
