If you’re a sports enthusiast in Dubai, you’ll probably have heard of Decathlon. And even if you’re not, you need to know about this store.
Light, bright and enormously well stocked, whether you’re a serious camper, amateur snorkeller or just like lying on the couch in your latest activewear buys, the store will more than meet your needs.
Now open at Ibn Battuta’s sprawling expansion, just a hop, skip and a jog from the Marks & Spencer boutique, this is the second outlet in the emirate but the first in the city’s southern neighbourhoods (the brand debuted at Mirdif City Centre).
More than 30 different sports and outdoors pursuits are catered for, with stock ranging from basketball hoops to tennis rackets, full scuba diving kit to kayaking paddles, and a whole host of lifestyle-improvers to boot (members of the Time Out team are particularly fond of the store’s range of adult kick-scooters – perfect for commuting in winter).
Amid the huge range of buys are some funky, new-to-the-market products, including full-face, anti-fog, 180-degree vision snorkelling masks – ideal for nervous swimmers or anyone put off exploring the UAE’s seas after an unpleasant encounter with a mouthful of saltwater. However you prefer to experience the great outdoors, Decathlon’s got it covered – with bicycle bells on.
