Have you got a thrill for the great outdoors? Well, fans of international adventurer and TV survivalist Bear Grylls will want to get their skates on (not ice skates) and head up to Ras Al Khaimah, because a brand-new survival centre has just opened up on the mountain.
The Bear Grylls Survival Academy will be coming to the UAE’s adventure capital later this year, located up on Jebel Jais – the UAE’s highest point and home to the world’s longest zip line. He’s the world’s most famous modern outdoor adventurer, and his new hub, set to open at the start of 2020, will give you a real-world crash-course in how to survive, and thrive, in extreme conditions.
Courses will combine survival and adventure challenges, which will conclude with a wilderness “expedition” designed to put your new skills to the test.
How will you fight a fire in the wild, build a shelter in an emergency, use a knife for survival, treat a medical trauma in the middle of nowhere, and navigate yourself using nothing but the sky? You’ll learn all of this in a range of different courses, as well as rock climbing and extreme weather survival.
Courses last anywhere from five to 48 hours, so you can expect to get a firm grasp of the basics, and if you’re a big adventurer, these skills could save your life.
Get your hiking boots on, it’s time to get wild.
