Time Out Says

The promise
La Roche’s new Palm Jumeirah branch offers a variety of relaxing treatments, massages, and baths. The Moroccan bath aims to relax the body and cleanse and soften skin. Moroccan baths are a form of hammam, using steam and black soap to cleanse and finishing with a moisturising massage.

Step by step
The salon is located on the lower ground floor of the building, and we are shown to a back room to wait for our therapist. The therapist checks if we have any skin sensitivities, allergies or conditions and once robed, we head to the steam room to start the treatment. We sit in the humid steam room for around 15 minutes, and the therapist pops in every now and then to check our comfort. After the steam, our body is smothered head to toe in natural Moroccan black soap (an organic, gloopy-looking soap made from vegetables and crushed olives) and we return to the steam room to let it penetrate. The soap is then rinsed off and every inch of our skin is thoroughly and vigorously scrubbed using a loofah mitt to get rid of any dry skin. The therapist is firm, but not at all rough. After all the dead skin is brushed off and washed away, we’re massaged gently with a hydrating oil.

The result
Immediately after the scrub we can already feel the difference. Our skin looks tighter and better toned, as well as instantly smoother and brighter – this was particularly visible on our legs as they get a regular run in with a razor. The post-scrub massage is very relaxing and the oils smell great too. Our skin was dewy and fresh for a few days after the treatment.

Pros
• Instant visible results.
• Products are all natural.

Cons
• Our therapist’s knowledge of exactly what was in each product was lacking, but they did make the effort to enquire and find out.
