Time Out Says

The promise
Reduced impurities and improved skin are said to be the outcome. The body cleansing ritual is performed underneath a rain shower aligned with the body’s six chakras.

Step by step

We lie down on a warm water mattress before being gently doused from overhead by the rain shower. It’s a pleasant sensation, like showering and napping rolled into one. The therapist applies a salt sea scrub for exfoliation to the body, followed by more showering. A body mask is applied and then a plastic sheet, which she refers to as a ‘tent’, is hooked over the waterbed. It looks and feels like lying on a surgeon’s table. Steam is then pumped into our tent-like space. While this process takes place, the therapist massages our head and also applies a face mask.

The result

We do not notice a staggering difference to our skin. Aside from the steaming, the 90-minute process is very relaxing and pleasant. The therapist promises we’ll have a good night’s sleep after the treatment and this is true.

Pros

• If you find showering relaxing, you’ll be in a cosy little haven as you lie on the heated waterbed soaking up the gentle, rain-like showers.

Cons

• During the steaming process, the temperature can get uncomfortably hot. However, the therapist will switch the steam off and remove the ‘tent’ for your comfort.

Ridoki Massage: The ridoki has two small pin covered rollers that create a yang effect on the treated area. The shape of the handle and medium size make it very easy to stimulate a large number of reflexology areas on the face in light and elegant movements. With regular massage, it is also effective at stimulating the skin and reactivating the blood circulation, thus helping the skin maintain its elasticity.

Eye massage with nouat naa: Nouat naa means facial massage in Thai. It is based on lithotherapy, which involves stimulating the reflexology zones on the face to ease pain. The principle behind nouat naa is simple: just like reflexology, it involves stimulating vital points in order to unblock a pathological condition. The nouat naa is made from a red oak wood handle and tiger’s eye crystals. This crystal belongs to the quartz family and has a beneficial influence on a number of physical and psychological conditions. In lithotherapy, tiger’s eye promotes sleep and a sense of calm, soothes headaches and has a positive influence on the blood circulation, stress and nervous tension. Its vibration calms the emotions and feelings of melancholia, while the cool sensation upon contact with the skin helps to soothe pain, clear the eyelids and firm up facial features.

What is your most popular treatment?
Polynesian Taurumi Massage: This traditional Polynesian massage, “Taurumi”, from head-to-toe includes a relaxing full-body massage through rhythmic movements of the palms, elbows and forearms in perfect synchronicity, inspired by old Tahitian massage techniques.

Do you offer any holistic or ayurvedic treatments?
Shirodhara treatment and Ayurvedic Chic Massage. Shirodhara: Based on ancient ayurvedic tradition, shiro (meaning “head”) and dhara (meaning “flow”) is a classic treatment where warmed ayurvedic oil is slowly poured over the forehead to calm and clear the mind, which is done after a relaxing back and head massage.
Ayurvedic Chic Massage: Experience a 1,000-year-old Indian ritual, where warm ayurvedic oil is massaged into the body, relieving tension, restoring energy and improving vitality.
