Top HIIT classes to try in Dubai

Dubai’s hotter months give us all the reason we possibly need to binge on Netflix and spend time really getting our money’s worth out of our sofa cushions. Sadly, the good times will be coming to an end as it starts to cool down a bit over the next month or so, and while we wipe away Doritos dust from the edges of our lips with a tear in the eye, we’re now gunning for a full-body workout, instead of just for our well-defined thumbs that spent the season with the TV remote. Here are four new gyms worth checking out in Dubai, to help get you winter ready. Bring on the pain.

FIT
Over on the Palm Jumeirah, one of Dubai’s trendiest hotels has opened a gym that has got us buying new gear and donning our sweat band just thinking about it. Head to W Dubai – The Palm, to FIT, an all-day gym that’s open to residents and tourists in Dubai. Depending on what you’re after, there’s a lot to check out. There’s loads of gear, weights, machines, yoga mats, treadmills, battle ropes and the like if you’re after a solo workout with a bit oomph. But if you’re a bit more of a social exerciser, then there are a number of classes available throughout the day, from HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) classes, to strength circuits and even Tabata classes which, if you’re yet to discover, see you rotate through rounds of exercises with short, high intesity periods of working out, and even shorter periods of rest. Classes start from Dhs55 throughout the rest of summer, and that even gives you access to the FITcamp classes, which they promise will leave you in pieces. We’re not in the slightest nervous about that. Ahem.
Open 24 hours. W Dubai – The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 245 5555).

Train Beach Club La Mer
We don’t know if competitive gymming is a thing, but if it is then this place probably invented it. This place at La Mer blends the fitness experience with the beach club life, with a swimming pool, private beach and a fitness-lifestyle restaurant. And, significantly, it’s a fully-licensed venue. Its soft-opening phase runs through September, and will be open until 10pm every day, but once the gym gets its late license it’ll be open until 2am. Membership costs Dhs885 per month and gives you full access to the gym and sister branches in Al Quoz and Abu Dhabi, while a day pass will set you back Dhs165. First-timers can also try the gym’s micro-chipped boxing classes where your entire performance and motion is analysed intensively.
Open daily 6am-10pm. La Mer, Jumeirah 1 (04 343 6662).

XFIT 3-In-1

XFit 3-in-1 has now opened in Town Centre in The Springs, and is offering three different approaches to fitness: lifting, boxing and high-intensity conditioning. It’s easy to get bored of doing the same workout every week, so XFit has promised that “no workout is ever the same”. Each class is based around movement, agility, high-intensity and, thankfully, “fun” (depending on your definition of fun). There are ten classes to choose from, with one-on-one coaching also available to help improve your performance and knowledge. It doesn’t sound easy, but nobody ever, really enjoys exercise, right? Just us? It looks like there are some great fitness classes, we can’t wait to get stuck in.
Open Sun-Thu 6am-9pm, Fri-Sat 8am-midnight. Town Centre, Jumeirah (04 439 2323)
