Excitement is already building ahead of the return of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The annual tournament will return to Zayed Sports City in December this year and it promises to deliver another top line-up of athletes.

Taking place from December 19 to 21 at Zayed Sports City's International Tennis Centre, the tournament is being held a bit earlier in the month this year to allow fans to enjoy the action before travelling for the holidays.

Last week former champion and 19-time Grand Slam winner Rafa Nadal was announced as one of this year’s contenders alongside Russian Daniil Medevev.

Now two more names have been added to the bill to showcase the ladies' game with an exhibition match between one of the biggest names in the sport and a hotly-tipped up-and-comer.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova will face 18-year-old Amanda Anisimova at the event.

“In just over a decade, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship has earned and cemented its reputation as the people’s favourite event in Abu Dhabi,” said John Lickrish, CEO, Flash Entertainment.

“We strive to make way for the best with every edition and in Maria Sharapova and Amanda Anisimova, spectators will truly see the best of tennis, from the experience of a multiple Grand Slam champion to the future of the sport.

“Confirming four of the biggest names in tennis in a matter of days demonstrates the appeal of this championship amongst the players and its attraction for domestic and international visitors who will get an unmissable experience, a blend of the best tennis action on court and the best entertainment and interactive competitions off court.”

Tickets to the event are already on sale and with more names to be added to the line-up it’s sure to be an exciting event both off and on the court again this year.
