Five of the world’s best male tennis stars are coming to Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2019.

The twelfth annual event includes world number one Rafael Nadal, the second-placed player Novak Djokovic, world number five Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas (who is sixth in the rankings), tenth-placed Frenchman Gael Monfils and Korean Hyeon Chung.

Also appearing are five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and rising star Amanda Anisimova.

The event takes place from December 19 to 21 at the capital’s International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City.

Monfils has already beaten Medvedev this year at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

He also made the quarter-finals of the US Open in August.

“Bringing the world’s best tennis players to Abu Dhabi is something that we take seriously at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship,” says John Lickrish, CEO of Flash Entertainment.

“Gaël Monfils’ confirmation is proof of our desire to bring the global tennis elite to the UAE’s capital and treat spectators to the unique opportunity of watching five of the ten best males players in the world.” He adds that the tournament has “a unique festival atmosphere that is fast-becoming a signature of this special championship,” he adds.

Monfils is excited to return to the UAE’s capital. “Having played in Abu Dhabi before, I know the special atmosphere of this championship and I am really excited to be coming back. I am looking forward to going up against a strong field and I believe that it will be the perfect way to begin an important season,” he says.

It’s free entry for kids 12 and under on the first day of the championship, which has loads of activities off-court as well as on. There’s a tennis village, tennis clinics, Q&A sessions with players and there are prizes to be won.

Adult tickets start at Dhs100, but if you buy a three-day package in advance you’ll get 20 percent off.
