Dubai Midnight Marathon
The inaugural Dubai Midnight Marathon will actually be a 3.2km fun run, with the first full midnight marathon taking place next year.

Dubai Motorsport Festival
Witness two days of high-adrenaline action featuring the NGK Racing Series, UAE Sportbike Championship, FG1000, Radical Cup and Porsche Cup ME.

UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship
The Class 1 powerboat drivers are back, having raced in Libreville, Gabon and Cernobbio in Italy, before finishing the season in Abu Dhabi on Friday December 21. Expect fast-paced action in the powerboat equivalent of motorsport’s Formula 1.

Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge 2012
The epic ride returns, taking in some of Dubai’s best-loved landmarks on a 92km tour of the city.

Dubai Wrestling Entertainment
This independent wrestling event takes place at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex, with fighters from WWE and TNA championships and superstar male and female wrestlers said to be among the competitors. Tickets available from the organiser’s website.

Gulf Super Sixes 2012
The corporate cricket tournament sees 48 teams competing. The top eight will be mentored by cricketing legends in a bid to see them win the cup in tonight’s final.

Urban-Ultra Desert Stinker run
A two-stage desert adventure run: choose eithertwo 10km races or two 20km runs. On Friday night, competitors will run in the dark on a flat course; in the morning they’ll run their chosen distance over the dunes. Dhs200. From 7pm. Bab Al Shams, (050 446 2069).

CrossFit fundamentals
Attend a three-hour introductory class and you’ll be ready to take on a beginners’ CrossFit workout session.

Dubai Desert Road Run December 2012
There will be a 10km race, a 3km fun run and a competitive 3km for junior entrants.

Emirates Airline Cup of Nations XVs Test Rugby Tournament
The final day of the rugby tournament. Participating in this year’s event are national XVs teams from Zimbabwe, Belgium, hosts UAE and reigning champs Hong Kong. Two games will be played, one at 4pm and one at 6pm.
