To really take stock of Dubai’s architectural wonders, you have to take to the skies. Looking up from ground-level, many of the patterns and formations created by carefully designed buildings, gardens and other developments are completely lost on the observer. From above, however, the scale of these quickly becomes apparent, allowing you to appreciate so much more.
Seawings offers a number of sightseeing flights that are perfect for taking in Dubai from above. The 40-minute dock-to-dock Silver tours take off from and touch back down at either the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa or Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. We recommend the former, as you’ll get to see a fraction more of the city. The route takes in the Palm Jebel Ali and follows the coastline past Dubai Marina to Palm Jumeirah, with fantastic views of Atlantis and Dubai icon Burj Al Arab. After a quick loop around Jumeirah Lakes Towers, the captain heads out to the World Islands, another development that can only truly be appreciated from the air. Next on the whirlwind tour is Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa, with the perspective on the city from above nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Seawings’s nine-seater Cessna seaplanes fly all over Dubai and to Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The company also offers scenic tours over Abu Dhabi, including over the architecturally impressive Yas Island. In addition, for those requiring an even more exclusive experience, a private charter can be easily organised to destinations as far as Sir Bani Yas Island, home to the UAE’s very own safari park, as well as the beautiful Zighy Bay in Oman’s exclave of Musandam.
Dubai Silver tours from Dhs1,395 per person, Abu Dhabi tours Dhs995 per person. www.seawings.ae (04 807 0708).
Time Out says...
‘The view from above is a genuine marvel, and you’ll be glued to the window as the pilot takes you from one incredible sight to the next. And in case you’re worried about taking off and landing on water, don’t be – it’s an effortlessly smooth process.’
