Thirty minutes of exercise, every day for 30 days. That’s all it takes, and that’s what the Dubai Fitness Challenge is encouraging residents to step up to. In a bid to become the healthiest city in the world, some huge health and fitness events are coming to Dubai – here are some of the biggest events to sign up for.

1 JLT Run 2017
If you’re a fan of the greenery and lakes dotted around JLT, then hitting this 8km road run through the streets of Jumeirah Lakes Towers is for you. It’s the first of its kind and, starting and ending in JLT Park, will finish with live entertainment and group exercise classes after the race. Registration closes on Thursday October 26.

2 Pink Ladies Games
A new experience for ladies of all cultures and ages to come together for a series of games, sports, activities and unique challenges. All funds raised will go towards Pink Caravan, the pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative – so get into groups of three to five, register online and go have some fun.

3 Dubai City Swim
Held at Kite Beach on Saturday October 28, swimmers can sign up for this mass participation swimming event, picking a challenge distance to suit their fitness level, style and ability. Choose from a 250m, 500m, 1km and 2.5km open water swim challenge, with prices starting from Dhs185. Registration closes on Wednesday October 25, so get in quick.

4 Super Sports Run Series
Head to Meydan on Friday November 10 and take part in this open-to-all running event. While seasoned joggers can push themselves in the 16km run, beginners and intermediate runners can get involved with the 3km, 5km and 10km races. Families and groups can

5 XDubai Spartan Race presented by Dubai Holding
Barbed wire, fire, swamps. The XDubai Spartan isn’t your average 10km park run. One of the toughest obstacle races in Dubai, it takes place at Hatta Mountain Bike Trail – so expect some challenging terrain. Did we mention there’s a US$50,000 (Dhs183,650) prize pot up for grabs?

6 Dubai International Triathlon 2017
This is one serious triathlon, for the swim, cycle and run fans out there. It features a 1.5km swim (which is a lot harder than it sounds, if you’ve not done it before), followed by an 80km bike ride and a 10km run. You’ll want to hit the training regime fairly sharpish if you’re planning on going into this cold.

7 Super Sports Mina Mile Swim Series
Barasti will be the place to be on Saturday November 11, with the Super Sports Mina Mile Open Water Swim Series taking place. Open to pros and beginners alike, choose to take part in the 200m, 400m, 800m or the 1.6km open water race. You can take part in as many races as you’d like, but registration in advance is essential.

8 The Color Run presented by Daman’s ActiveLife
Whether you’re a casual mall walker, or you run like Mo Farah, The Color Run presented by Daman’s ActiveLife is one of the most fun 5km running events you’ll come across. It’s un-timed, it’s not competitive and, most of all, it’s colourful. Start in white, and finish doused in every colour under the sun. It’s all followed by a massive after-party – The Finish Festival.

9 Dubai Women’s Run
Dubai Women’s Run aims to inspire women from across the city into health and fitness with this huge event expected to attract more than 10,000 ladies to Marasi Business Bay. It’s the seventh time the event has been held, and comes in two distances depending on your level – 5km and 10km.

10 Fitness Expo Dubai
It’s one of the world’s largest fitness expos, and it rolls into the Ice Rink at The Dubai Mall on Friday November 17 and Saturday 18. Expect bodybuilding sessions, health and wellness classes, fitness fashion demos, nutrition and supplements advice, seminars and more.

11 Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge
All roads point to the Spinneys Dubai 92. This is one of the region’s biggest cycling challenges in which amateurs are welcome. It will take you some time to get race-ready. Thankfully, there are a couple of build-up events left to come in October and November, so hit the road in preparation for this monster 92km race in December.
