Barry's Bootcamp to launch in Dubai

Time Out Dubai announces Barry's Bootcamp to launch in Dubai, huge news for fitness and gyms in Dubai. The HIIT training concept has a celebrity following

Barry's Bootcamp, the fitness craze popularised by celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal, David Beckham, Ellie Goulding and Jessica Biel, is coming to Dubai.

Described as 'the best workout in the world', the high intensity 'group exercise' concept promises to help burn 1,000 calories an hour.

Already based in New York, Chicago, Nashville, San Francisco, as well as London and Norway, the concept was launched in Los Angeles more than two decades ago. As our friends in London explained when the first UK branch opened in 2013: 'If Baywatch were a gym, this LA import would be it.'

News of the opening was teased on the company's Instagram page last year, but Time Out now has the inside track with the team in Dubai.

Now it is, for want of a less sinister word, a cult - let’s call it community. Or family. Engagement with all participants is widespread, with photoboards both on site and online, group outdoor exercises and, also coming to Dubai, events like fun runs. Time Out understands Barry’s have plans, over time, to put on something similar to We Run DXB.

But first things first, the group bringing the concept to the Middle East will open in DIFC at some point around the middle of 2016, while a second location is pencilled in for the Dubai Marina end of town, potentially in Knowledge Village, within a year of the first. There are further plans to bring the concept to Abu Dhabi and other GCC nations over the next five years.

Time Out Dubai understands classes will run five times a day, seven days a week, and will be priced around the Dhs120 mark, possibly lower, although this has not been confirmed at the time of writing.

So what sort of bang will you get for your buck? We’ll let our pals in London explain: 'While one half of the class sprints like they're on the run, the other completes high intensity resistance exercises - every fifteen minutes they swap, and ramp their efforts up and down, fine-tuned by the on-the-ball, ludicrously muscley instructors.

'If you find normal gyms a bit too sissy for your tastes, there is no doubt you'll be stretched to your limits by a turbo hour of synchronised sprints and matwork sessions chez Barry.

'If all of this sounds a scoop of hair gel and a protein shake too much for your tastes, it's worth mentioning that the classes are actually strangely fun. The music is loud, the work varied, and the sessions pass in a flash. What's more, they are fiendishly effective.'
