Aquaventure and Red Bull skateboarding stunt - video

Time Out has the Aquaventure and Red Bull skateboarding stunt video. See skateboarders riding the waterslides at the Atlantis The Palm Dubai waterpark

We all know how much joy there is to be had a waterpark. You'd think that whooshing, whooping and swishing round sharp turns and steep drops would be stomach-flipping fun for most.

And then Red Bull arrive on the scene and crank things up a notch. Or two. Or three. But that's what they do and boy are we thankful for it.

For their latest trick, the company have enlisted the help of professional skateboarders Alex Sorgente, Milton Martinez and Jan Hoffmann, and been let loose on the 17-hectare Aquaventure site at Atlantis The Palm.

They grabbed their chance for 'a never-to-be-repeated session on some of the most outrageous terrain ever touched' when two of the awesome waterpark's signature slides, Zoomerango and Aquaconda, were drained of thousands of litres of water as part of regular maintenance.

And the result is one of the coolest videos we've seen in some time.

The stunt at what was recently voted one of the best waterparks in the world took place over four days in January, with Italian Sorgente, German Hoffmann and the Argentinian Martinez hitting the jackpot and getting the call to flip, grind and drop in their way around Poseidon's Tower and more. It took a crew of 22 to piece together the two-and-a-half-minute clip. headed up by director Eduardo Munoz.

From more than six storeys above The Palm, the trio skated their way through 156-metres of tunnels, hitting speeds of 35kph.

"The whole hotel was insane. I never had the chance to skate a waterpark before, the slides were huge and a real challenge, kinda scary but very cool, 18-year-old Sorgente said. "My favorite part was the roll in to the giant bank wall, I’ve never skated a wall so tall in my life."

Serge Zaalof, President and Managing Director of Atlantis added: "We are honored the skaters and the team at Red Bull chose Atlantis, The Palm to film this stunt. These skateboarders are extremely talented and clearly expressed their excitement to be here, and we look forward to working together on what will be a successful relationship going forward."

Tickets to enjoy the slides as they should be - with water - start from Dhs170 for UAE residents. For more information, visit
