Dubai has been touted as a possible venue for the rematch of Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko, following their spectacular bout in April.
London’s Wembley Stadium, in Joshua’s hometown, played host to the heavyweight title clash, which saw the 27-year-old British boxer defeat one of the sport’s longest serving and most successful fighters in recent years, in what became an instant classic.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that three countries outside the UK have submitted a bid to host the rematch: the UAE, specifically Dubai, America and Nigeria – the country of Joshua’s parents. Hearn said to sports broadcaster Sky Sports: “So many offers this week – Nigeria, Dubai, America, and also we have the opportunity of Cardiff here in the UK. Financially, Cardiff’s not the best choice, but also at the same time, if it’s not broke don’t fix it, and we have that mentality with AJ moving forward.
“Over the next two weeks we are going to look at all those opportunities and sift out the ones that are real and the ones that make sense, and look at where the fight will be.”
Hearn also confirmed that he will be meeting with Team Klitschko this week to begin discussions over the location and terms of the rematch.
If Joshua-Klitschko 2 comes to Dubai, we absolutely cannot wait for it!
