The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has just released renderings of a new observation deck being developed near the summit of Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak.
The emirate is already known for its outdoor tourist attractions, adventure sports and idyllic retreats for a quick staycation, and the addition of a new hiking attraction is adding to the range of activities available. According to RAKTDA, there will be a series of viewing platforms, where visitors will be able to take in vistas of the wildlife, flora and fauna of the Al Hajar mountain range, on the Omani border.
The Jebel Jais Observation Deck will also serve as a base camp for hikers and bikers looking for a challenge on the mountain range, as the summit of Jebel Jais rises up to nearly two kilometres above sea level. In addition, a food truck zone, picnic area and multi-purpose events arena is due to open up when the deck opens to the public in October.
What’s more, the whole deck will be solar powered, and in addition to its long-term energy sustainability, locally sourced materials are being used in its construction.
With Jebel Jais boasting the only commercial Via Ferrata (dedicated, protected climbing route) in the Gulf, the addition of the observation deck has the potential to massively boost tourism to an already vibrant adventure tourism destination.
