Sporty women – listen up. The first-ever ladies-only Spartan race in the region is taking place next month, on Saturday December 16.

The XDubai Spartan Race presented by Dubai Holding, will take place at Jebel Ali Racecourse, and is open to women only. There are only 1,000 spaces available, though, so you better sign up fast.

The race will be run over 5km and comprises more than 20 obstacle (think fire, barbed wire, mud et al) and is expected to attract women from all around the region.

It’s open to any ladies aged 15 or older, and the first heat of the day will kick off at 9am.

“The popularity of the Spartan series has been growing exponentially across the region, particularly among women,” said Mohammed Javad, general manager of XDubai.

“This women-only Spartan Sprint builds upon that growing popularity as it encourages even more women to participate through an event designed especially for them.”

The race comes at a time when the Middle East is ramping up its fitness levels – fresh on the heels of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which ended at the weekend (Saturday November 18).

Edris Al Rafi, of Dubai Holding, added: “Our aim is to create a community of active women where sport and fitness is a part of everyday life. This race is a perfect example of what is possible through like-minded partnerships, and we are proud to play a key role in bringing this unique event – which will be a regional first – to the women of the UAE and beyond.”
