With polo ponies, top sporting action and live DJs, this year’s Beach Polo Cup Dubai looks set to be bigger than ever.

Held in a special purpose-built arena at Skydive Dubai, 12 players will take to the sand to battle it out in a two-day competition next week (Thursday December 14 and Friday December 15).

This year’s event will have even greater capacity for fans of the Sport of Kings, too, with tickets starting at just Dhs60.

Twelve polo players – both international and local – have been announced to take part in the competition.

Four players hail from Argentina – Matias Machado, who has led the winning team to victory in the past two tournaments, as well as Maxi Malacalza, Lucas Labat and Juan Jose Storni, who will be playing in the tournament for the first time.

Unlike in field polo, a reduced team of three players aside (rather than the usual four) take part in a scaled-down arena. The ball is also made of lighter-weight material.

The Nissan LEAF team will feature Emirati patrons Tariq Albwardy and his brother Rashid Albwardy. They will be joined by Argentinian professional, Matias Machado, from the Desert Palm Polo Club.

The Royal Pearls team includes European Director for the FIP (Federation of International Polo) Dr Piero Dillier as well as Moritz Gaedecke – Ambassador of the German Ambassador of FIP – and pro player Lucas Labat.

The Hills Advertising team sees patrons Sam Instone and Jan Bladen playing alongside Juan Jose Storni.

Finally, the Artmarine team includes patrons Ayaad Damouni and Rashed Al Sayegh, aided by Maxi Malacalza.

“With the skill and passion these players bring to the game this year, the Beach Polo Cup Dubai 2017 presented by Nissan promises to be even more fiercely contested than any edition to date,” said Gaby Katiela, Tournament and Event Director. “The 2017 title race is wide open and each team member will bring their ‘A Game’”.

VIP Majlis Zone tickets start at Dhs700 a head, which includes food and drinks, while tickets are available for the Shams Zone at just Dhs60.

There will be live DJs playing, with the party continuing after the matches have finished, so it’s dress up and cheer on the teams.
From Dhs60. Thu Dec 14-Fri Dec 15.
