Heading down to JBR this weekend? You’re in for a nice surprise as #WOWJBR is making a grand return, and it’s first taking visitors to the vibrant lands of Latin America.
That’s right, the second season of Dubai’s premier waterfront destination has finally returned, with 20 weeks of live bands, parades, roaming performers and a bunch of different activities – all for free.
Kicking off today (Thursday November 15), the first month will have a “Carnival theme” with acrobatic shows and parades, along with Latin bands and samba performances to bring that South American twist.
As for next week from Thursday November 22 to Saturday November 24, the circus is coming to town, bringing daring acrobats, stilt walkers and unicyclists, fun-loving jugglers and even masterful Cyr wheel performers to, well, “wow” all who come.
That’s not all, as JBR will also have a special show inspired by the hit movie The Greatest Showman, so expect a whole lot of dazzling performances to get excited about.
For the next 20 weeks, each month comes with a different theme, and December is bringing all the festive cheer to mark UAE National Day and Christmas with Emirati dancers and wintry activities.
On Thursday December 20 and the weekend after, join in on the festivities with a quirky line-up of LED puppet shows, winter stilt walkers, juggling elves and a merry reindeer walkabout. All while top musicians and DJs play upbeat tunes to spread festive cheer.
It will also have a larger-than-life Rubik’s Cube that anyone can try their hand at solving to win prizes along with specially set up holograms and 3D mapping.
Visitors can walk along JBR’s lengthy 1.7km promenade under a canopy of lights and head over to the photo wall for those Insta-snaps.
This year will also see the launch of “Movies Come to Life”, labelled to be an outdoor screening experience that will have characters from our favourite movies roaming around and mingling with the crowd.
What’s next? January promises to focus on all things well-being so you can put your mind and body at ease, while February will see an international theme overlapping with Chinese New Year celebrations with traditional East Asian practices. To finish it all off March’s arts theme will have installations, roaming art displays and a delectable food festival.
“This year the destination will again transform itself into an immersive hub that celebrates art, entertainment and an exceptional ambiance”, said Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Retail Nabil Ramadhan.
That’s not all, #WOWJBR will also see the return of its ten-day music festival – with local and international performers to rock five dedicated stages at the venue.
First things first, get ready to samba for the rest of November.
