Four ways to get your kids outdoors more in Dubai

Sick of the sight of tablets at the table? Know more Fortnite dances than a Premier League footballer? Subscribed to your 100th YouTube prankster already?

It’s time to take the kids – and yourself – outside for a change.

Yes, it’s getting a little toasty out, but it shouldn’t stop you all from making the most of Dubai’s exceptional outdoor offerings.
Even if it’s just to lie on the lazy river.

Aquaventure Waterpark
You now have more time to enjoy the brilliant Aquaventure Waterpark as Atlantis The Palm has rolled out a two-day pass for just Dhs290.

Take on the 20 thrilling rides, lazy river and private beach plus a shark feeding show, unlimited rides on the Surf’s Up wave rider and access to the awe-inspiring Lost Chambers Aquarium – home to more than 65,000 marine animals.
From Dhs290. Open daily 10am-6pm. Atlantis The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 426 1030).

Desert safari
There’s no better way to experience the desert than in Dubai.

This family friendly experience sees trained safari guides drive 4x4 vehicles and lead a thrilling journey over the sand dunes before you can enjoy a camel ride and a barbecue feast in the desert.

There are a variety of tour companies, with Arabian Adventures a firm family favourite.

JBR Beach
Easily the busiest beach and among the most popular in Dubai, there’s always a fantastic time to be had here.

Finding your own private patch of sand on this beach is possible all day, but be warned it won’t be a massive one.

You’ll see jet skiers, flyboarders, swimmers, bathers, ice cream huts, beach volleyballers, joggers, snorkelers and fitness buffs, big and small, taking on the inflatable Aqua Park.

There’s an abundance of restaurants, breakfast spots, cafés and entertainment areas including a cinema, fairground arcades and playgrounds. Facilities include beach bed rental, showers and changing rooms.

Plus, there’s plenty of activities to entertain the whole family, including Splash Pad, a soaking-wet play area for little splashers.

La Mer
Dubai kids jump at the name of this one alone. La Mer is known for its top seaside restaurants, cafés and plethora of ice cream parlours.

The picture-pretty shoreline is lined with brightly painted beach huts and open for swimming from sunrise to sunset.
La Mer really picks up after sunset.

It’s perfect to chill out on after a hard day’s slipping and sliding around the family-friendly Laguna Waterpark.
