PBA Back in Dubai
The Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) returns to Dubai for two days of competitive games, pre-show shootarounds and a carnival-like atmosphere, as Filipino ballers take over the city’s Coca-Cola Arena. See Desiigner at Base
On Friday October 4, BASE Dubai will host the Billboard number one hit singer of Panda for a one-night gig. Taking place from 11pm until 4am, the night is priced at Dhs200 for gents, and ladies will get free entry and drinks all night long.

Groove on the Grass
One of the city’s funkiest al fresco parties in town, Groove on the Grass is making a grand return for its eigth season, and it’s revealed its big opening line-up of top artists. Kicking off on Friday October 4 from 5pm until 3am, fans of electronic dance music can expect pumping tunes, artistic activations, range of activities and pop up marketplace. Braii at Emirates
Calling all rugby fans – Saffer ones in particular. On Friday October 4, South Africa will be taking on Italy in their third match of the Rugby World Cup group stages and in celebration (and anticipation of a big win) Emirates Golf Club is laying on a day of rugby, braai and brews. The game kicks off at 1.45pm (UAE time) but the fun doesn’t end after the game. South African singer and songwriter Byron Minnie will take to the stage as well as Ivan Roux who was a runner-up on Die Kontrak (which translates to The Contract) – a popular South African reality TV singing competition. Watch Skyfall at Dubai Opera
To celebrate James Bond Day on Saturday (October 5), fans of the world’s classiest secret agent can watch a special screening of Skyfall to celebrate 50 years of James Bond. Kicking off at 8pm, Dubai Opera wants filmgoers to dress to impress, with a night filled with tuxedos, gowns and even 007’s favourite drink. Sky2.0 launches for the new season
Swanky super-club SKY2.0 isreopening for its second season on Wednesday October 9 with a three-day opening party weekend that’s set to wow the city. Hailing from Beirut, the party spot is already well-known for its trademark entertainment, top-notch service and interactive modern technologies and since opening its doors in Dubai earlier this year it’s already made its mark on the party scene with its themed nights and cracking evening-that-turn-into-morning parties. Have a giggle at the Laughter Factory
A barrel of laughs is coming to the UAE this October, as The Laughter Factory has revealed another trio of top comedic acts for nights filled with plenty of banter and giggles. Kicking off on Thursday October 10, the ‘Social Faux Pas’ tour sees stand-up legend Stewart Lee’s favourite woman in comedy, Eleanor Tiernan as the headline act, along with Men In Black International star Mike Capozzola and London-based comedian Emmanuel Sonubi.

Step back the roaring 20s with Gatsby on the QE2
Theatre by QE2 is setting up ‘Gatsby: The Dinner Experience’ this October, and it’s looking to be just as sophisticated and fantastical like in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s modern-American classic. Guests of Gatsby can expect a three-course set menu to tuck into, along with unlimited house beverages and soft drinks. Join the Cucumber Carnival
DXB Cucumber Carnival off on Thursday October 17 for two days at Soho Garden at Meydan.We’re being promised an “action-packed, festival-style weekend” with performances, tastings, workshops and shows all taking place. On Thursday October 17 acts such as The Electric Swing Circus will be coming to the venue with various interactive shows, comedy and more. There will also be hobby horse polo, cucumber croquet, tug of war, rose and spoon race, a three-legged race and the Cucumber Cup Horse Race. For two days only, London-based Gymkhana restaurant will bring its Michelin-starred cuisine to Indian restaurant Armani/Amal at the Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai. The Armani Hotel Dubai will host the return of executive chef of the famed venue Jitin Joshi. His change of menu saw Armani/Amal bag Best Indian Restaurant at the Time Out Restaurant Awards in 2012, so we’re in for a treat. Using ‘time-honoured’ cooking methods along with special spices for each dish, foodies can expect set menus with a contemporary Indian twist. Taking place from Thursday October 17 until Friday October 18 from 6.30pm until 11.30pm, Chef Joshi will take over Amal's kitchen, with a modern Indian menu that brings together tradition and innovation.

Tackle a half marathon
The City Half Marathon, which will be held in October, is a brand-new addition to Dubai’s ever-growing roster of activities, as the Dubai Fitness Challenge helps make the city’s the world’s most active, and to increase exercise participation across every age group and demographic. The new half-marathon will take place in DIFC on Friday October 25 with a brand-new route showing off one of the world’s most important and most photographed financial districts. It will start in front of the Gate Building, and take runners and spectators through the district’s landmarks, with cracking views of the Dubai skyline throughout. But, if you thought this was an event for the fitness enthusiasts then fear not, because 5km and 10km options will give casual runners across six different age groups the opportunity to get involved. Participation starts from Dhs125 for the 5km run, Dhs175 for the 10km run and Dhs275 for the full 21km run.

Swim a mile
It’s not every day we get the chance to be appointed the king and queen of, well, anything, but if you swim as quick as a fish in water, you may just gain the title. The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah is holding a one-off multi-distance swimming event next month, and the winners of its mile-long race will be crowned the ‘King and Queen’ of The Pointe. Kicking off at the crack of dawn at 6.30am on Friday October 25, there will be different distance races open for men and women, including a 200m swim for ages eight to 11, a quarter-mile (0.4km) distance for all ages and half a mile (0.8) distance for ages 12 years and older. As for those taking on the mile swimming race (1.4km) for ages 15 and above, they’ll be competing for the desirable titles.

Dubai’s Global Village is set to reopen on Tuesday October 29 for its 24th season, following a record-breaking seven million visitors for its last edition. In fact, more than 150,000 people wanted Dubai’s iconic theme park to stay open for longer last season. Clearly, Global Village is a trending spot. The international-themed entertainment destination hosts more than 25 pavilions representing 75 countries across the world, and you’ll be able to indulge in everything from Canadian poutine to Swiss raclette and Dutch mini pancakes.
