Dubai’s most romantic restaurant
Who would have thought piles of grilled meat and liberal helpings of fondue would be so romantic? Well, us actually. Dubai's most romantic restaurant RÜYA Dubai, combines chic ambience, Marina views, twinkling lights and, let's be honest, incredibly delicate and imaginative Turkish food. Settle into a dimly lit table at the Grosvenor House and adore one another. For more of the best romantic restaurants in Dubai, click here.
Open Sat-Wed, 6pm-1am; Thu-Fri, 6pm-2am. Rüya, Grosvenor House, Dubai Marina, www.ruyadubai.com (04 3999123).

Have an indulgent couples’ massage
It seems unlikely that there are actually 1001 roses, as its name suggests, used in Talise Ottoman Spa’s signature romance massage treatment for two. But it is at least something for couple's to ponder as they gobble down strawberries in between a skin-softening bath and a 60-minute side-by-side massage. Pampering perfection for pairs. The Talise Ottoman Spa on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah is one of the very best spas to visit. For more top Dubai spas, click here.
Open daily, 9am-9pm. Talise Ottoman Spa, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel, Palm Jumeirah, www.jumeirah.com (04 4530455).

Roll dice together
Board game café Unwind Café in Dubai’s Al Barsha has more than 500 board games, plus coffee and cake. Read that back again and ask if you think it sounds like your sort of place. From classics like Scrabble, Ludo and various Monopoly editions to hundreds of unexplored alternatives. Games such as Bonk, Taboo and Dungeons and Dragons sound like wholesome fun for couples.
Open Sun-Wed, 10am-11pm; Thu-Sat, 10am-midnight, Unwind Cafe. Hessa Street, Barsha, www.unwinddubai.com (056 404 0019).

Be underwater buddies
PADI dive training teaches the importance of diving in pairs. For safety. While that is undeniably important it is also excellent to have a friend with you to point at the big colourful fish and look for pretty shells.
Open Sun-Thu, 10am-8pm; Fri-Sat, 8am-6pm. Al Boom Dubai, Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah 1, www.alboomdiving.com (04 3422993).

Ride a tandem ski lift
Ski Dubai is an excellent place for a romantic date (hopefully, unless you disagree on skiing technique or are frustrated learning the ropes skiing, just saying). You could ride a ski lift with a stranger and invite them to have a hot chocolate in the café halfway up (or down for that matter) the slope. But why would you? The same goes for a pre-ski snowball fight and penguin selfie. Some things are just cooler to do in twos. Stop off at Après at Mall of the Emirates for a fondue and glass of bubbly overlooking the slopes, too.
Open Sun-Thu, 10am-midnight; Fri-Sat, 9am-midnight. Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, Barsha, www.skidxb.com (800386).

Escape your reality
Can your relationship survive being locked in a room and being asked to solve puzzles and find hidden clues? Throw in a wizard theme, terrifying dolls or a killer on the loose and it gets all the more challenging. Popular for corporate team-building Escape Rooms are also the most fun stress test you can add to a date night. One of the most challenging things to do.
Open Sun-Wed, 11am-11.45pm; Thu-Sat, 11-1am. Phobia Dubai, JLT, www.phobia.ae (052 7974916).

Paddle a kayak
On the Venn diagram between falling asleep on a hammock and training for a triathlon taking a pedalo for a cruise in the Arabian Gulf is probably a fair intersection. Same goes for sharing a paddle in a kayak. Watersports are something couples can enjoy together and a great way to break up a beach day.
Open daily. Call for timings. Anantara Palm Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, www.anantara.com (04 5678888).

Have your minds blown
Or at least boggled by the perception-distorting puzzles, optical trickery and bizarre sensory experiences. From anti-gravity rooms to an infinity tunnel or clone table the Museum of Illusions is best enjoyed with a partner. At the least somebody to say ‘ooooh’ to your ‘aaaah’ and help you keep balanced.
Open Sun-Wed, 10am-10pm; Thu-Sat, 10am-10pm. Museum of Illusions: Al Seef by Meeras, Phase 3, Bur Dubai, www.museumofillusions.ae (04 3573999).

Take in a show

La Perle is a stunning show that is a permanent exhibition in Al Habtoor City and comes from the mind of artistic director and Cirque du Solei alum, Franco Dragone. Cruise the fountain
Ed Sheeran, Adele, Whitney Houston – The Dubai Fountain has paid musical tribute to the greats. You’d get the same effect with a hose pipe, iPhone and a couple of torches, but the spectacle is amplified at the foot of the Burj Khalifa. Imagine how good it is when you’re cruising on the lake.

Be scared together
Sometimes people scream on rollercoasters. It's a fact. When they do their loved ones think it is very funny and that is why they should be by your side when you do. Whether it is stampeding velociraptors, speeding superheroes or rampaging robots a trip to this thrill-packed theme park is a great day out. There are loads of top theme parks in the UAE but for scary rides, check out IMG Worlds of Adventure. Things to do in Dubai don't get more white-knuckle than this.

Walk among the flowers

We're short on meadows, jungles, forests and much in the way of luscious greenery in Dubai. But every year, from mid-November, the 72,000sq m Miracle Garden opens for a season of blooming beauty. It opened on Valentine's Day, 2013, and the 150 million flowers have witnessed many a romantic stroll filled with longing gazes.
Open daily, 10am-10pm. Dubai Miracle Garden, Al Barsha South, Dubailand, www.dubaimiraclegarden.com (04 422 8902).

Share your tapas
The idea of small plates is that you swap food, combine flavours and interact over an intimate dinner. It is mankind’s greatest concept. Take a handful of olives, skewer some octopus, scoop up some tomato-drizzled potatoes, get involved with our cheese. Just stay away from our prawns or we will fall out. Al Hambra in Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah has loads to try.
Open Tue-Thu and Sat, 6-11.30pm; Fri, 7-11.30pm. Al Hambra, Jumeirah Al Qasr Madinat Jumeirah, www.jumeirah.com (04 5260419).
