It’s the start of the week and there are loads of things to do in Dubai. And as we’re approaching Christmas, there’s plenty of festive fun, too. Read on for our top picks this week.

Monday December 9
Win big!
Join Time Out Dubai at The Irish Village for a huge Christmas pub quiz, complete with a mince pie-eating competition. Book a table for you and your brainiest mates. Prizes include Dhs3,000, tickets to Madness and loads more.

Christmas tree lighting at Fairmont The Palm
On Monday December 9 you can watch the hotel’s tall Christmas tree light up, and can expect Santa dancing away at his musical grotto, free Christmas treats and plenty more. Taking place from 5pm until 7pm, the merry event will be joined by one of the best kids’ choirs in Dubai singing live carols. They’ve been trained by Dubai Performing Arts (DPA), so expect good tunes. Families can meet the big man in a red suit at his musical grotto, while Cinderella and her entourage will be making a special guest appearance for those family snaps. The hotel will be offering festive treats and soft beverages, along with gingerbread making for the little ones. As for parents, there will be mulled grape and hot chocolate at Mashrabiya Lounge to sip on.

See Lethal Bizzle
Famed UK grime artist Lethal Bizzle is set to perform a huge show at one of Dubai’s hottest late night venues Toy Room DXB for its weekly ladies night. Kicking off on Monday December 9 from 11pm until 4am, partygoers can expect to jump around to some of his best tunes, including Pow, The Drop, I Win and Oi! – which charted in the top ten of the UK Singles Chart. Entry is completely free for everyone, with doors opening at 11pm. Ladies will get free drinks until 1am, so best get down there on the dot.

Tuesday December 10
Carol singing at H Hotel Dubai

Little ones will love watching the lobby of this opulent hotel transform into a winter wonderland before their very eyes. Sing along to all your favourite Christmas carols and enjoy some tasty festive treats – as well as a glass or two of mulled grape for mums and dads. Plus Santa himself will be making a star appearance to drop off some pressies and hot chocolate for well-behaved children.

Check out a new restaurant
Argentina Grill – which does what it says on the tin – is now open at the seaside shopping and dining destination La Mer. The restaurant uses traditional asado grill cooking methods and the kitchen boasts three Argentinean parrillas and a Josper. Plus the venue is licensed so expect Latin American beverages and a Latino party every night from 8pm until 10pm.

Wednesday December 11
See The South
‘90s British rock band The South are performing for one night only at Dubai Opera and it’s going to be a cracker of a show. Expect to bust a move to A Little Time (their number one hit single), Perfect 10 and Rotterdam as the band, fronted by the original singer of The Beautiful South, Alison Wheeler, hit the stage and get the crowd on their feet.

Try Music in the Studio
The same night, Royal Opera House star soprano, Mary Bevan, will be bringing her sparkling festive music repertoire to Dubai. The classical megastar with the incredible vocals, will be accompanied by Amira Fouad, Dubai Opera’s curator of music, on the piano as the talented pair perform a score of festive classics.

Christmas tree lighting at The Irish Village
Every year The Irish Village goes all out when it comes to Christmas, and this year is no different. The Irish Village will be throwing its annual tree lighting bash on Wednesday December 11, and we suggest you mark it in your diary now. The popular pub in Garhoud will be hosting a special party, with carol singing from both the St Mary's Church Choir and Dubai Duty Free choir, mince pies, mulled grape and the big switch on. It all kicks off at 7pm, so be there sharp for a glass of mulled grape. Families are encouraged to bring along their children for the festive spectacular too, and free mince pies are handed out.

Try a new ladies’ night

Thursday December 12
See top DJs at FIVE Palm Jumeirah
