Still keeping fit and active during these times of self-isolation and staying at home in Dubai? Well, if you've been keeping on top of things, or if you're looking for motivation to get moving quickly, a full home marathon is taking place this weekend, and you're invited.
While the city looks to beat the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, everyone is being urged to stay home unless absolutely necessary, but that doesn't mean you can't keep hitting your running goals. The Marathon at Home, run by the Dubai Sports Council, will be taking place on Friday April 10 from 8am until 6pm. It's part of Dubai Sports Council's Be Fit, Be Safe campaign, encouraging people to work out at home.
It's completely free to take part, all you need to do to register is head to www.530run.club before Monday April 6.
Once you're registered, it's time to download the Strava app, that's how you'll log your time, and get jogging around your home, apartment, house, villa, garden (delete as appropriate). And, no, you can't pass the baton on to anyone else.
This is one for the serious runners out there, so make sure you're properly prepared and trained before attempting it.
If you're able to complete the race the fastest, you'll bag yourself a whole bunch of ASICS running gear. All finishers will win a free ASICSt-shirt and a finisher's medal. The top three finishers in the men's and women's categories will get a full running kit by ASICS, an entry ticket to the Moscow Marathon (currently scheduled for September, but of course that's pending for now), while the top ten will all receive a pack of ten EMS training sessions from Vertexfitness - here's what happened when we tried EMS last year:
There are a couple of terms, and these are important. You'll only be allowed to run inside your home - no running in public, or in a gym, or on a treadmill. You'll have to have the Strava app activated and running throughout your run, so it can accurately record your time and location.
Fuad Naser, founder of 5:30 Run club, said: “We are really pleased to announce this first-of-its-kind marathon in association with Dubai Sports Council and ASICS Middle East.
“With the spread of COVID-19, it was our responsibility to support the government and country in promoting #StayHome in order to #StaySafe. These challenging situations inspired us to think out of the box and give our community a way to achieve and maintain an active lifestyle, while still #StayingHome.
“So we came up with the idea of organising a ‘Marathon at Home’. The main goal of this event is to show that ‘impossible’ is not in our dictionary and that you can still train for a marathon at home.”
If you've been smashing the home workouts (of which there are many to try) and in peak physical fitness then this could be your ultimate at-home fitness test.
