Rate My Bake: Batch 6 judges' verdicts

It’s clear that Dubai loves baking, and that you’re pretty good at it too. We’ve been inundated with brilliant photos of everything from pizza to patties, cakes to cookies for our Rate My Bake, in association with Lurpak.

As well as posting all the images you’ve sent in in a gallery here, each week we’re sending a selection to the judges to rate.

And here is the sixth batch to have made it to the judges. Is your bake one of them? See what the judges had to say below.

Toby Davies’ peach pie

This is a great looking peach pie, and the image is gorgeous.

Beautiful crisp pastry with a summery filling.

Sahar Parham Al Awadhi, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

Good use of seasonal fruits and an even crust. I appreciate the addition of olive oil in the recipe, it adds a level of flavour complexity.

Alex Stumpf, BB Social & Dining
Rating:

This is a nice looking tart, but I prefer the crumble to be a bit more chunky.

Amy Mathieson, Time Out Dubai

There’s some expert food styling going on this photo. The pie itself looks excellent too, the crust is uniform the whole way round and the peaches inside look nicely cooked. There could be a little more crumble topping, and for it to be a bit more evenly spread.

Maryam Rivnat’s halloumi bread

Marc Hayes, Lurpak
Rating:
3/5
I love this recipe, a mix between a quiche and a bread that is perfect as breakfast or afternoon tea snack.

Izu Ani, GAIA and carine
Rating:
3.5/5
This looks like a flavoursome bread, and an excellent use of olives and herbs.

Sahar Parham Al Awadhi, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah
Rating: 2/5
I like the flavour combinations, however the bread looks a little undercooked.

Alex Stumpf, BB Social & Dining
Rating:
2/5
This is a very creative cake, and one I have never heard about before. It looks quite dense, but I imagine that’s because of the cheese.

Amy Mathieson, Time Out Dubai
Rating:
3/5
There’s excellent creativity in this bread, especially the addition of halloumi to the mix. It looks really tasty, and packed with olives and herbs. The bread perhaps could be baked a little more to get a crispier crust.

Lois Mav’s caramelised orange cakes

Marc Hayes, Lurpak
Rating:
3/5
A lovely caramelised orange cake that reminds me cooler winter times.

Izu Ani, GAIA and carine
Rating:
4/5
A lovely, light and fluffy cake.

Sahar Parham Al Awadhi, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah
Rating:
2/5
This looks like a refreshing summer cake. Sweet and sour gives a good balance and this looks well executed. It lacks some creativity as we have seen a few orange cakes before presented in a similar way.

Alex Stumpf, BB Social & Dining
Rating:
3/5
This cake has a nice caramelisation and I love the summery yellow colours.

Amy Mathieson, Time Out Dubai
Rating:
3.5/5
This cake looks like it has a lovely sweet, sticky marmaladey topping and is another one that’s really well presented.

Nor A Sindatok’s cheese filled kunafa bites

Marc Hayes, Lurpak
Rating:
4/5
A great local dessert. Not much can beat the smell of butter toasting vermicelli.

Izu Ani, GAIA and carine
Rating:

These look really crispy and crunchy, well done.

Sahar Parham Al Awadhi, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah
Rating:

This is a creative way to present the kunafa in individual portions. They look well cooked and are nicely browned in colour and it looks like a good ratio of crust to cheese.

Alex Stumpf, BB Social & Dining
Rating:
3/5
Classic kunafa that have a nice coloured. The most important is that they will be soaked in syrup.

Amy Mathieson, Time Out Dubai
Rating:
4/5
A classic Middle Eastern dessert with a twist. Great creativity, nicely presented with a precise smattering of crushed pistachios and all consistent in size. They are a good colour and look delightfully crispy.

Dipesh Makwana’s seeded sourdough

Marc Hayes, Lurpak

Very nice sour dough bread with a beautiful looking crispy crust.

Izu Ani, GAIA and carine

A nice crust and use of sesame seeds, it looks good.

Sahar Parham Al Awadhi, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah
Rating:

There’s a very nice crust on the bread. I appreciate the added flavour of the black sesame seeds.

Alex Stumpf, BB Social & Dining
Rating:
3.5/5
This is a nice looking bread, I hope there are more different seeds in there than just black sesame.

Amy Mathieson, Time Out Dubai
Rating:
4/5
The crust on this looks absolutely cracking and the addition of sesame seeds makes it more interesting.
